FlyDirect will operate the first ever non-stop direct flights from Guernsey to Gran Canaria using airBaltic A220 aircraft
Guernsey residents will soon be able to fly non-stop to the Canary Islands this winter, as FlyDirect has just announced a brand-new seasonal route to Gran Canaria. For the first time, passengers will be able to fly directly from Guernsey to Las Palmas Airport, with a flight time of around four hours. Operated by airBaltic using the Airbus A220-300, the weekly service will run during the Christmas and New Year holidays, continuing throughout January.
The route marks a major milestone in the expansion of direct leisure travel options from Guernsey. Known for its diverse landscapes, Gran Canaria is often described as a “miniature continent”, making it a highly attractive winter sun destination.
As with FlyDirect’s existing services, travellers can choose between flight-only tickets or full holiday packages, with a wide selection of accommodation available across several resorts. Options cater to both families and adults looking for a child-free getaway.
“For several years we have been operating a programme to the Canary Islands from Jersey and the Isle of Man. It now gives us enormous pleasure to announce that, for the first time ever, we will be offering direct flights from Guernsey,” said Robert Mackenzie, Managing Director of C.I. Travel Group.
Ross Coppolo, Managing Director of Guernsey Ports, added:
“We have been delighted to be involved with this exciting new opportunity for the Bailiwick of Guernsey, resulting in the introduction of exclusive, direct flights to Gran Canaria for the first time using the Airbus A220.”
Each booking includes 18kg of hold baggage and 5kg of hand baggage as standard. A limited number of golf clubs and bicycles can also be carried free of charge, offering further savings compared to routing via the UK. Tickets are expected to go on sale later this week at flydirect.co.uk or by phone.
