G-ORAI was the last of Aurigny’s order of 3 new ATR 72-600s. It is named after Guernsey Raiders and is equipped with the EVS “fog-busting” technology that provides pilots with a clearer view of the surroundings in low visibility conditions. The registration G-OFOG was also considered but G-ORAI ultimately won out, probably for the better! On major overhaul at Sabena it was found to have an issue with the material used in the Vertical Tail Plane fitting. This was the first event of its kind and led EASA in July 2024 to issue an Airworthiness directive addressing the problem. This greatly extended the time it spent in maintenance.
